Why Booked with Hilltop?
Hello, my name is Mary Cogger. After I retired from teaching, I had more time to volunteer in the community. In a meeting of the Hilltop Library Planning Committee, I learned the importance of personal book ownership. My love of books and literacy led me found Booked with Hilltop.
Public libraries provide many invaluable services to their communities including free access to a wide variety printed materials. They serve as a gathering place for people to come together. They are also important to those without access to the internet. Libraries are an essential public resource.

Personal libraries provide another important path to literacy. Having books in the home library has been linked to a child's success over and over.

Reading Is Fundamental states:

A child who grows up in a home without books has only a 30% probability of reaching 9th grade.

Literacy is at the core of academic achievement for all children and is one of the est predictors for high school graduation, overall long-term success and prosperity.

After twenty years of study, University of Nevada professor Mariah Evans published these results:

The results of this study indicate that getting some books into their homes is an inexpensive way that we can help children succeed.

Having as few as twenty books in the home has a significant impact on propelling a child to a higher level of education. The more books you add, the greater the benefit.
